MBA in Sport Management - JOR

The MBA in Sports Management is a part-time, post-experience programme specifically designed for managers working within sports-related industries

This programme combines the management disciplines of the traditional Executive MBA with specialist sport-related modules. The aim of the programme is to provide managers with the knowledge and skills required to implement better practice techniques in this increasingly important sector of the economy.

Content

The MBA in Sports Management is a modular, part-time programme with a system of rolling entry. Students are expected to register for a minimum of two years and have a maximum of four years to complete the taught element of the programme. In order to receive the MBA (Sports Management) students are required to pass eight taught modules and submit an extended research project. The six core modules are taken from the Executive MBA programme. The research project will usually be work-based and each student will be supported by one-to-one supervision.

Each module is taught in intensive seven day blocks, usually in January, April, June and September. This block format is designed to allow in-depth learning, whilst minimising the time spent away from work. It also means that the MBA can be taken by managers outside of the UK, not least because of our proximity to Birmingham International Airport. In order to join the programme, managers must have at least three years relevant work experience.

The teaching methods employed on the programme include lectures, seminars, group work, case studies and business simulations. As this is a post-experience programme, students will also benefit from comparing experiences and perspectives with managers from other organisations
