TBP - Delaware MBA

The Delaware MBA/MS Information Systems & Technology Management Dual Degree

The Department of Accounting & Management Information Systems, in cooperation with the Office of Graduate & Executive Programs offers a MBA/MS in Information Systems & Technology Management (IS&TM) dual degree option. The dual degree option allows the student to complete both the MBA and the IS&TM with a total of 60 credits. The MBA/MS: IS&TM combines the required courses in the MBA program with the required and elective courses in the MS in IS&TM. See sample curriculum. This program is jointly administered by the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics Graduate and Executive Programs office and the Department of Accounting & Management Information Systems.

Requirements for Admission

Students desiring to pursue the joint MBA/MS: IS&TM must apply directly to the degree program and must meet the admissions requirements of both programs (See the University catalog for those requirements). The admissions directors for each program will evaluate the application separately and will apply the same criteria as specified in their respective programs. The prospective student is encouraged to see the admissions policies for both programs in the graduate catalog. Whereas the MS: IS&TM program accepts both the GMAT and GRE exams, scores for the GMAT will be accepted by both programs.

The MBA/MS: IS&TM is a joint degree program. As such, the joint programs must be completed and the dual degree is conferred. Students admitted to the MBA/MS joint degree program who later decide they only want to complete one of the degrees must apply separately to the desired program for admission as a candidate in that program. Students who complete the single degree (MBA or MS: IS&TM) may not at a later date be admitted to the dual degree program. In such case the student would be required to complete all requirements for the second degree. A student who is initially admitted to either degree and who decides to pursue the dual degree must apply for change of degree to the MBA/MS dual degree prior to receiving the first degree and must complete the requirements for the dual degree prior to any degree being granted.

Requirements for the Dual Degree

The MBA/MS in IS&TM program combines the require courses for the MBA program with the additional required courses of the MS in IS&TM program. The MBA core and required courses make up 30 credits of the program, the additional 30 credits of course work are from the MS in IS&TM. The total 60 credit program includes no elective credits, therefore careful planning is required.

Students may apply for the MBA/MS in IS&TM on either a part-time or full-time basis. Full-time students are expected to complete the program in two years. Part-time students are expected to complete the program in approximately four years.

Transfers of coursework earned elsewhere, and waivers of courses are allowable under the same provisions as the MBA and MS in IS&TM programs separately. Regardless of course waivers, dual degree students must complete a minimum of 60 credits of coursework at the graduate level.

Students must maintain continuous enrollment in every regular semester (fall and spring) throughout their program unless by approved leave of absence.

Graduate Programs Related to Finance

MBA Program

At the graduate level, the MBA degree offers its students an option to concentrate in Finance. A concentration in Finance is desirable for individuals seeking a career in corporate finance, portfolio management, investment banking, consumer banking, international finance, and/or financial consulting.

To concentrate in Finance through the MBA, one is required to take four finance classes beyond the core course in managerial finance, FINC 850.

  • FINC 851 - Corporate Financial Analysis (an emphasis on financial policy)

  • FINC 852 - Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management (an emphasis on portfolio strategy)

  • FINC 853 - International Finance (an emphasis on currency influences in investments and corporate finance)

  • FINC 854 - Special Topics in Finance

  • FINC 855 - Financial Institutions and Markets (an emphasis on fixed income markets)

  • FINC 856 - Financial Engineering & Risk Management (an emphasis on futures and options)

  • FINC 858 - Corporate Governance (an emphasis on seminar discussion of the relationships between managers and owners)

  • FINC 859 - Seminar in Finance (an emphasis on a project of strong interest to you)

  • FINC 867 - This course number designates an 'experimental course,' meaning a course that is a new idea. The name and nature of such courses changes over time. Currently, under this number:

    • For Fall 2005, we have an MBA Elective: Small Business Finance, with an emphasis on practical funding and operating decisions.

    • For Spring 2006, we have a Ph.D. elective: Workshop in Financial Economics. This is appropriate for Economics Ph.D and M.S. students, and perhaps others, with appropriate preparation. Contact the Department for more information.

Click here to view the corresponding syllabi for these courses.

MBA students also need to take 6 credits of other MBA electives not offered by the Finance Department. The electives should be selected to enhance the student's understanding of other topics related to their career objective.

TBDSL - Economics at University of Delaware

Economics is a fascinating subject, poised at the intersections of social science, business, and public policy. An understanding of economics principles is critical to success in business and to the design of effective government policy. Economists study how markets work to determine what is produced, how it is produced, and how income is distributed. Among the many topics studied in economics are the role and impact of international trade, the impact of monopoly on the economy, and the problems of unemployment and inflation.

Many students are attracted to economics for its blend of quantitative methods, social science subject matter, and policy applications. Economics is a terrific liberal arts major, as well as excellent preparation for careers in business and government and for further graduate and professional study. A graduate degree in economics offers a wide variety of career opportunities in both the public and private sectors.

The University of Delaware Economics Department includes 27 full-time faculty who cover the full range of courses and fields in economics. Our department takes great pride in both our teaching and research accomplishments.

At the undergraduate level, we offer B.A. and B.S. degrees in Economics and a B.A. in Economic Education. At the graduate level, we offer M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Economics, a joint MA/MBA, and an M.A. degree in Economics and Entrepreneurship for Educators (MAEEE).

You can learn more about our department and all of these programs here. You can also stop by and see us on the 4th floor of Purnell Hall or call us at 302-831-2565.

TNicole - MS Accounting, University of Delaware

The Department of Accounting and Management Information Systems offers a program leading to the Master of Science degree in Accounting. The objective of the M.S. in Accounting program is to extend the education of qualified students into advanced study in each of the major areas of the field of accounting (financial, managerial, information systems, auditing, and taxation), as well as in the supporting fields of finance and quantitative methods.

Why Pursue an MS Accounting Degree? Because you want to go further, the M.S. in Accounting provides advanced preparation for careers in public accounting, information systems consulting, industry, and government, and establishes a foundation for further study at the Ph.D. level in preparation for an academic career. Additional concentration toward more in-depth study in any of the five accounting areas is possible by the combination of elective courses and independent study/research with an interested faculty member.

Students in the M.S. in Accounting program pursue either a full-time or a part-time course of study. Full-time students with an undergraduate accounting major from an accredited AACSB institution should be able to complete the program within one calendar year. The program requires 30 hours of graduate credit which includes twelve credits of required accounting and twelve credits of required systems courses, plus three credits each of finance and statistics. Candidates for admission are invited to contact the Director of the M.S. Program, Dr. Kent St. Pierre, 206 Purnell Hall, (302) 831-2961.

TTTN - Jones Center for BBA Education, Michigan University

On May 10, 2005 the University of Michigan announced the gift from Tom Jones to establish the Thomas C. Jones Center for BBA Education at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. The purpose of this gift is to enhance the BBA educational experience. Examples of the kinds of activities that are envisioned are the following:
  • Educational programming to provide BBA students the benefit of Action Based Learning projects, similar to those that currently characterize the Ross School day-MBA student experience.
  • Programming dedicated to development not only of requisite knowledge and skills, but also of students leadership capability. The programming, where practical, should leverage the leadership programming in other Ross School programs, but should be customized to the needs of BBA students.
  • One or a series of integrative capstone courses to develop students' ability to synthesize functional knowledge into an overall understanding of the business situation leading to action planning.
  • Workshops to complement coursework to provide skills allowing students to be outstanding entrants to the world of business practice.
  • Training and guidance on career planning and the transition into the work place.

The current Executive Director of the Jones Center is Scott Moore, BBA Program Director, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, and Associate Professor of Business Information Technology. If you have questions about a class or activity that might benefit from funding by the Jones Center, please contact Dr. Moore.

TTY - Oragon MBA Program

Accelerated M.B.A. Program

Requirements: Sixteen 3-4 credit electives; 48 credits minimum
Length: Four terms of full-time study

Students are eligible for the accelerated 4-term program if they have

• An undergraduate business degree from an AACSB-accredited institution
• 2 courses each in Accounting and Finance with a grade of B or better
• A strong overall academic record
• GMAT score of 600 or better
• Good work experience

FAQs

How does the accelerated M.B.A. work?
Accelerated students skip the first-year core and directly proceed to the second-year electives. Unlike students in the 2-year program, however, accelerated students take sixteen 3- or 4-credit electives. Your choice of focus areas is the same.

How long does the accelerated M.B.A. take?
If you are a full-time student taking a normal load of 4 courses per term, you’ll be done in 4 terms, or 15 months from start to finish. LCB does not offer graduate business courses in the summer, although it is possible to take 1-2 courses in Economics or Planning, Public Policy and Management. On a part-time basis it will take longer, of course.

Do I have to start the accelerated M.B.A. in the fall?
While a fall start date is preferred, students can also enter the accelerated program in winter or spring.

Is the accelerated M.B.A. degree worth less?
No! You’ll be receiving the same degree and your diploma will read the same as that for the two-year program.

What are the advantages of the accelerated M.B.A. ?
1. It takes less time and costs less.
2. You don’t have to rehash material you studied as an undergraduate.
3. You get to take more electives and can craft your program around several focus areas.

What are the disadvantages?
1. You miss out on the Strategic Planning Project of the first year.
2. As part of a much smaller cohort, you’ll be taking classes with students who entered the regular program a year earlier and thus have come to know each other well.
3. There’s less time to get ready for your job search.

TTAF3 - MA Human Resources Management

Why study the HRM programme?

A career in Human Resource Management can be a particularly challenging one. As organisations seek to adapt to the threats and opportunities of accelerating environmental change, the management of human resources has acquired growing strategic significance. As an HRM specialist you will be required to have a wide understanding of organisations and people and the ability to translate organisational strategies into effective HR policies and practice. You will need expertise and analytical ability, together with a grasp of "the big picture".

The Human Resource Management programmes at Bristol Business School are designed to develop these skills and give you the confidence to succeed in your career. Both programmes have been running for many years and have an excellent "track record" borne out by the destinations of our former students.

Full or part time route?

Bristol Business School offers this Masters award as a full or part time route, with the flexibility to leave the programme at several exit points with a recognized qualification and graduate membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

The full time route is an intensive 12-month programme, commencing in September. There is an option to complete the first nine months in order to achieve the Postgraduate Diploma and gain CIPD recognition. However, students usually elect to study for a further 3 months in order to complete a dissertation and gain the prestigious Masters award. Students attending the full time route are typically recent undergraduates, or mature students seeking a mid-career change.

The first is the Postgraduate Management Foundation (which covers the CIPD's Leadership & Management standards) which runs from September to August. The second stage, which runs from September to August, is the Postgraduate Diploma (which covers the CIPD's People Management & Development field, the electives and management project/CPD learning log). Successful completion of these two stages will give you Graduate membership of the CIPD and a UWE post-graduate Diploma in HRM. Further study and completion of a dissertation will enable you to achieve the full Master's award. The Master's stage takes up to 12 months to complete and commences in September.

Structure of the programme

Postgraduate Management Foundation

(covering the CIPD's Leadership & Management standards)

This stage provides an introduction to the theory and practice of management and the study of strategy and organisational analysis. There are 4 modules:

  • Managing People - which looks at the factors which impinge on organisational effectiveness, leadership, and personal managerial effectiveness.

  • Organisational Management - this module looks at landmark studies in the history of organisational thinking, change and culture management. The module also examines quality management and continuous improvement processes and initiatives.
  • Managing Information for Competitive Advantage - this module examines the role of information and systems structures in modern organisations, the use and construction of statistical data and accounting and finance principles.

On the full time programme these modules are taught at the beginning of the programme in the first term. There is a residential outdoor activities session in the first term, offering you an opportunity to develop personal and inter-personal skills whilst getting to know other members of the group.

On the part-time programme this course of study will last for the whole of the first academic year (September - August). It will require your attendance on one afternoon/evening a week or one full-day a week. There is a 2-day block release (non-residential) period of study as part of this programme during the year.

Postgraduate Diploma

(covering the CIPD's People Management & Development field, the electives, and the project/CPD log)

This stage consists of the following:

  • Human Resource Management & Development - which provides an integrative examination of the four main HRM disciplines: Employee Resourcing, Managing Reward, Employee Relations and Employee Development.

  • Elective choices which further enhance knowledge and development in key HRM areas. Students choose 4 electives from a choice which normally includes:
People Resourcing
Management & Career Development
Employee Relations
Managing Reward
Employment Law
Psychometric assessment
  • A project -either a management report or a dissertation (see below). The management report is around 6,000 words in length and is based on a project identified by the student and host or placement organisation. Students receive research methods tuition before beginning this project.

  • A continuous professional development learning log - in which students record their learning in a CPD record covering both learning on the course and in the workplace or placement organisation.

  • Skills workshops - these are designed to help develop the skills that underpin your personal and professional effectiveness. Skills workshops are normally attached to core and elective modules and typically include:
Interviewing (linked to HRM & Development)
Preparing for an Employment Tribunal (Employment Law elective)
Negotiation (Managing Reward elective)
Redundancy handling (Employee Relations elective)

More generic skills are also developed throughout the course, such as presentation skills, report-writing, group-working, problem-solving etc

On the full-time programme this phase of the programme runs in the autumn and spring terms. The project is based on an organisational placement which is a unique feature of the programme and a highlight for many students. The placement will be for either 5 weeks (management report) or 10 weeks (dissertation). You negotiate a project which is designed to develop your applied understanding and to be of real value to the host organisation. Placements in recent years have included blue chip companies in the manufacturing and financial services sectors, the building industry, retail sector, local government, central government agencies, education and the privatised utilities.

On the part-time programme this phase runs for the second academic year (September - August) and involves both day release and block release delivery. The project is normally based on the student's own employer, but alternative methods are available for students who are not currently in employment.

The Master's dissertation

This final phase runs over three terms and includes a research methods module which develops your research skills in preparation for your project. The dissertation is based either on a placement project (for full-time students or part-time students not currently in employment) or the employing organisation for part-time students. The dissertation is around 15,000 - 18,000 words in length. Students will be allocated an individual dissertation supervisor for the duration of the research.

Students completing a Master's dissertation do not have to complete a management report as well.

Teaching and Learning

The MAHRM encourages learning through a wide variety of participative and learner-centred methods. These include syndicate work, group discussions and presentations, student-led seminar activities, analysis of case studies, guided private study, experiential learning exercises, and practical computing and statistical exercises.

The MAHRM is an intensive programme and you are unlikely to complete it successfully unless you allow time for reading and preparation. You should aim to allow a minimum of 15 hours study per week on the full-time programme and 6 hours on the part-time programme.

Class based study is supplemented by reading from set texts or further reading lists, and additional preparation is needed to read case studies or prepare for other presentations and activities. Some of these will require group tasks so you must be able to meet outside the timetabled sessions on occasions.

Entry Requirements

Full time route

Entry is open to all first-degree graduates of UK universities in any subject. Applications from candidates with other qualifications are welcome. If you are not preparing for or do not currently possess a first degree, you will be asked to complete a written exercise in your own time as evidence of your suitability for study at postgraduate level.

We welcome applications from international students, both from within the EU and elsewhere. Applicants should hold qualifications comparable to the entry requirements for UK students.

Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential. Applicants whose first language is not English require a qualification such as Cambridge/British Council English Language Testing Service (IELTS) with a score of 6.5 or above, or to have achieved a TOEFL score of at least 600.

As this programme is designed to satisfy CIPD requirements, no exemptions are allowed from elements (e.g. Employment Law) whose application is restricted to part or all of the UK.

Part time route

Minimum entry requirements are a good degree in any subject or successful completion of an assessment exercise designed to assist you in deciding whether you are ready for study at post-graduate level.

Accreditation of prior learning

Accreditation of prior learning may be possible if you hold other Master's level qualifications which cover at least 80% of the learning outcomes for a module on the programme. The credit rating of the module you are offering as equivalent must be the same (or greater) than that of the MAHRM programme. You will be asked to complete an accreditation of prior learning application form and submit a certificate showing the pass in the module and a syllabus showing the learning outcomes and assessment arrangements. Accreditation is normally only given for "current qualifications" ie those completed within the last 5 years. The Programme Tutor will be happy to advise you about the APL requirements.

Assessment

The MAHRM uses a wide range of assessment methods including assignments, group presentations or projects, examinations and class-based tests. Our assessment methods are chosen to resemble the types of work faced by professional practitioners.

Teaching team

The MAHRM is taught by well-qualified staff who are used to working with post-graduate students. All of the tutors are established researchers in the areas in which they teach and/or have experience in consultancy.

TDB - MA Management, Bristol Business School

About this 'new' programme

Bristol Business School has successfully run an MSc Management programme for many years. However in recognition of changes in working practice and the extensive hours that many professionals now work, this programme has recently been redesigned and restructured. The new programme provides the following features:

  • the full MA programme now has only nine modules enabling in-depth study and integration as well as requiring fewer student assessments

  • a range of optional subjects to enable specialisation in your chosen area of management

  • assessment linked to your current role and organisation

  • a choice of study routes - the programme is now available via one evening session per week or through three-day blocks, or a combination of both. You can choose whichever route suits you or your employer the best

  • study at your own pace - this new programme will enable you to choose how many subjects you study each year (normally up to a maximum of two taught modules per term)

  • flexibility - you can decide when and how much you want to study at the start of each year

  • the opportunity to meet with and learn from managers in other organisations

What are the benefits of the MSc Management?

  • enhanced knowledge and skills

  • confidence in your abilities

  • improved performance in your current role

  • enhanced career progression

  • distinguish yourself from candidates that have only an undergraduate degree

Intense competition and changing customer expectations have meant significant changes in the nature of organisations; networks, partnerships, strategic alliances, mergers and de-mergers, all making the manager's role more complex and demanding.

This newly designed flexible programme will enable you to develop management capabilities in order to complement your specialist expertise, developing and continually upgrading your portfolio of skills and knowledge.

The programme will enable you to link theory and practice relevant to managing in today's organisations. The staff who teach on this programme have a wide range of experience of researching, consulting and working with a variety of organisations including those in the private, public and not for profit sectors.

How is the programme structured?

We expect most students to complete the full Master's programme, which includes taught modules at Certificate and Diploma phases (normally six core modules and two elective modules chosen from a variety of options) and a final dissertation module in the Master's phase.

If for any reason you are unable to complete the programme you can leave with a recognised university qualification providing you have built up sufficient credits (either Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma) and you may be able to return to complete the full Master's programme at a later date.

Entry to the programme is normally at Postgraduate Certificate level with most students commencing in late September each year. The six core modules at Certificate and Diploma phases cover the areas of:

  • Finance
  • Marketing
  • Operations and Information Management
  • Human Resource
  • Management
  • Organisational Analysis
  • Strategic Management

In addition you will normally be able to choose two electives from a variety of options covering contemporary issues in management such as:

  • Consulting with Organisations
  • Managing Change
  • Digital Business Strategy
  • Innovation
  • Services Marketing
  • Project Management
  • Finance
  • Leadership

In the final Master's phase you will undertake a dissertation module where you will be able to carry out a research project on a topic of your choice.

When will I have to attend?

This programme has been designed to offer maximum flexibility and you can choose when you attend, depending on the speed at which you want to proceed through the programme. It is possible to study in the evening, or by block sessions, or via a combination of the two. You could expect to complete the programme in 33 months, or 24 via the fast track route.

The evening session runs from 4.00pm - 8.30pm (with a half hour break) one day per week. The three-day block sessions will take place during October, mid November, late January/early February and mid March, usually on a Wednesday to Friday. Prior to starting the programme additional information will be sent to you, enabling you to choose how you wish to study. Those wishing to fast-track through this programme should discuss this with the Programme Director at the time of application as this route is dependent on student numbers and will require additional attendance on block modules in the early summer.

The Dissertation

This Masters programme places great emphasis on a dissertation completed during the summer term. You will receive research methods training during the year to equip you to undertake a significant piece of international management research. Your topic may be practical or theoretical, and once you have identified your proposed study a dissertation supervisor guides your progress.

Entry criteria

You should have:

  • A degree or equivalent business professional qualification, or

  • An HND in Business Studies or equivalent business professional award at NVQ 4, plus two years of relevant work experience or

  • At least two years in a management role with in-house management education/development. You may be interviewed prior to acceptance and asked to undertake an additional pre-entry assessment.

How will I be assessed?

The programme primarily uses continuous assessment, chiefly through marked assignments which are either organisation or role focused and of great practical benefit to you as an individual and to your organisation.

How will I learn?

You will be encouraged to learn through a wide variety of participative and learner-centred methods which include; case studies, syndicate-based exercises, group experiential learning exercises, presentations, formal lectures, and self-directed independent study.

TTP - EMBA, Univeristy of New Haven

The Executive MBA Program at the University of New Haven is the second oldest program in New England - founded in 1976 - with over 1500 graduates to date. It is designed for experienced, full time managers who want to prepare themselves for general management. Emphasis is placed on instilling the concepts and tools of management rather than developing proficiency in specific business specialties. The program runs for just under two years, beginning in either September or February. Consider some of the program's key features:

Curriculum and Faculty geared to today’s practical business problems

  • A curriculum designed to equip the students with the language and tools of business with real world problems and cases that test for grasp and reach.

  • A mix of faculty with both academic and business credentials.

  • Teaching methods that stress interactive learning, enriched by the shared experiences of the students themselves.

  • A class schedule which offers one course at a time - in intensive 5 week sessions - allowing students to concentrate on a particular discipline without the distractions of competing coursework

  • Special programs:
    - an international seminar or a seminar in Washington to explore first hand the interaction of business and government.
    - a business simulation requiring students to run a hypothetical company and to seek venture capital funds for continued operations.
    - research projects which test students' ability to analyze and solve complex business problems.

Convenient locations and times; minimal administrative hassles

  • Classes offered in these locations for ease of access: New Haven and Stamford.

  • Classes offered once a week, either during the week or on Saturdays.

  • Concurrent programs that allow students to make up for missed class time by attending another class.

  • Small class size - less than 25 - allowing for more active classroom discussion.

  • The program consists of 18 modules, scheduled into two academic calendar years, plus either a master's-level research paper or the seminar at The Washington Campus. Classes meet from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. one weekday each in designated conference facilities. Each module is five sessions in length and has the value of 3 credits, with the exception of the three full-day, 2-credit Communication Process module. Participants must be prepared to attend all classes except for emergencies. Students must also be prepared to devote significant additional time for class preparation and reading assignments.

TDS - Master of Accountancy, J.M. Tull School of Accounting

Thank you for your interest in the J. M. Tull School of Accounting's graduate accounting programs at the University of Georgia. The Tull School of Accounting is ranked 14th nationally among all public institutions’ graduate accounting programs. We offer both the post-baccalaureate degree program, known as the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) and our special Five-Year Program (BBA/MAcc). The MAcc is a 30-semester hour program for applicants with an undergraduate degree in accounting. The Five-Year degree allows UGA accounting majors the opportunity to complete both the Bachelor of Business Administration and MAcc degrees concurrently.

Applications are accepted for admission for both Fall and Spring sessions. Summer admission is only available to those candidates who are interning and wish to receive graduate credit for their experience. International applicants are not eligible for summer admission due to visa restrictions regarding an internship during a student's first semester in a graduate program.

The MAcc Admissions Committee recommends that candidates have, at a minimum, a 550 GMAT and 3.00 overall GPA and 3.00 accounting GPA to receive serious consideration. The combination of increased number of applications and limited number of seats in the program, forces our Admissions Committee to be extremely selective. The current MAcc class average is a 610 GMAT with 3.60 overall GPA and 3.60 accounting GPA.

Once you apply and pay your application fee, you will be able to follow the progress of your application via an “Admissions Tracking Screen” provided by the Graduate School. Graduate admission to the University is a collaborative process between the UGA Graduate School and the
J. M. Tull School of Accounting. Applications are reviewed as a group at dates determined by the MAcc Admissions Committee. The Committee will evaluate the application file and forward a recommendation to the Graduate School. The Graduate School reviews the recommendation and makes the final determination on the applicant’s status and will send a final notification by mail.

TDP - Bachelor of Business Administration

Overview

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with an Accounting major is designed to give the student an understanding of the theory of accounting as it is used in our society. A student's coursework may lead toward a business, public, or governmental accounting career. An accounting education provides an excellent background for non-business professions, such as law, and is helpful for advancement to top level management positions.

All majors are required to complete a series of courses covering the field of business. Also available is an opportunity to participate in an internship program. Internships are not required, but are encouraged. Previous students have interned with "Big Four," national and local public accounting firms, and industries such as Georgia Pacific, Home Depot, and Turner Broadcasting, to name a few.

A student interested in an accounting major must first be admitted to the University's Franklin College of Arts and Sciences as a pre-business major. On-line information and applications for UGA admission are available at www.admissions.uga.edu. During completion of specific courses and other requirements, a student may then apply to the Terry College as an accounting major. Entrance requirements, prerequisites, and application procedures are listed at the Terry College of Business Undergraduate home page. Once admitted to the major, students will be advised within the Tull School. For specific information on the accounting requirements, see the general requirements for the BBA degree in the UGA bulletin.

TDrF - Terry Evening MBA Program

The Terry College of Business is excited to announce a second location in metro-Atlanta for its Evening MBA program. Applications are currently being accepted for fall enrollment for both locations.

Program Director Don Perry said the target enrollment at the Buckhead location will be as many as 50 students, and he expects a strong demand for seats in the inaugural class. The program in Gwinnett has grown steadily, with almost 250 students currently enrolled. "Establishing a second location in Buckhead will allow us to meet the needs of more of Atlanta's working professionals because of its closer proximity to where they live or work in Atlanta."

Tclls - Accelerated MBA Program

The Accelerated 11-Month MBA Program
The leadership development experience of the accelerated 11-month program is like the two-year experience, but in concentrated form. Eleven-month students participate in the same seminars and workshops and work in permanent teams during the summer semester. During the fall and spring, they also have identical MBA P.L.U.S. and Career Resource Center requirements and opportunities. Moreover, each student works with his or her own professional leadership coach and meets regularly with that coach over the 11-month period to advance in self-awareness, implement a personal leadership development plan, process feedback, and reflect and refocus for further growth.

Rankings
The Terry MBA program is consistently ranked in the Top 50 among all MBA programs in the United States by such major publications as U.S. News & World Report, Business Week, Financial Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Terry MBA students participate in many national competitions each year, such as the National Black MBA DaimlerChrysler case competition, the Net Impact Sustainability case competition, MootCorp, and the National Associate of Industrial and Office Properties case competition. They frequently finish first or second against other high ranking programs.

Eligibility and Prerequisites
Candidates must have received an undergraduate degree in business from an AACSB International accredited institution. If you are unsure as to your eligibility, the Dean's Office of the business school at your undergraduate institution should be able to inform you of your school's accreditation status.

Undergraduate business majors from non-AACSB International accredited institutions can petition the MBA Admissions Committee for admission to the 11-month program. Petitioning candidates need to contact the Terry MBA Admissions Office to request a Core Course Equivalency Evaluation Form. This form must be completed by the candidate and returned with the MBA application. Petition requests received without a completed Equivalency Evaluation Form will not be considered. Petitions will be considered on the basis of a candidate's academic record, including grade point average and coursework completed, GMAT score and professional experience.

TSB - The Terry MBA Program

21st Century Leadership
The Terry MBA Program has two objectives. The first is to provide Terry MBA candidates with the knowledge and skills valued in the marketplace for post-graduate employment and long-term career advancement. The second is to provide our graduates with a lasting competitive advantage ... a set of seven leadership competencies that will not only differentiate them from other MBAs, but also add meaning and satisfaction to their lives.

At the heart of effective business leadership is business acumen--having advanced cognitive abilities to comprehend, apply, analyze, synthesize and evaluate business solutions. The first year core curriculum, comprising 26.5 credit hours of required coursework and 3 credit hours of electives, provides a solid foundation for today's business environment.

The Terry MBA Program has systematically integrated leadership development opportunities across the curriculum and throughout the MBA experience. In collaboration with Terry's Institute for Leadership Advancement, we have selected seventeen measurable components of leadership for development and assessment.

The two-year MBA program is designed for non-business baccalaureate degree holders and business majors from non-AACSB International accredited institutions. The program involves four semesters of full-time study with fall semester admission only. While no prior business coursework is required of two-year students, it is often advantageous for incoming students to acquaint themselves with several functional areas of business prior to enrollment. Students in past years have benefited most from introductory coursework in accounting, statistics and economics.

A solid foundation in math will be needed to be successful in the program. This will require you to assess your quantitative background and, if you feel it is necessary, to prepare yourself for the program by taking a business math course.

TSF - Ph.D. in Accounting at USC, Irvine

The primary objective of the Accounting Ph.D. Program at the University of California, Irvine, is to provide an intellectual environment in which talented individuals can develop a strong understanding of accounting principles that enables them to make significant contributions to the field of accounting through their research and teaching. The Accounting Ph.D. involves an intensive program of study about modern accounting methods and their impact on organizational issues such as management, earnings, and firm performance. Students are exposed to the principal theories, methodologies, and various effects of accounting practices. Because the field of accounting is so broad, the program is highly individualized to allow students to pursue their specific areas of interest. Students pursue self-designed areas of specialization that reflect their interest and combine several academic fields. Examples of the disciplines studied include the following themes.

  • The impact of accounting standards on stock prices.
  • Factors affecting financial analysts' earnings forecasts.
  • The impact of compensation schemes on firm performance.
  • he influence of experience and organizational factors on resource allocation decisions.
  • Recent breakthroughs and advancements in information technology and their application in the field of accounting.

Accounting Faculty

Faculty profiles, courses and other area information can be found on the Accounting Academic Area page.

Student Support

Students admitted to the doctoral program in accounting are eligible to receive a three- or four-year support package covering tuition, fees and a living stipend. This support is provided through a combination of scholarships, teaching assistantships and research assistantships.

Phase I: Qualification

The first half of Phase I provides students with a general exposure to the areas of accounting. A Preliminary Examination, which covers basic accounting theories and standards, is required of all students, and must be completed within one year. Upon passing the Preliminary Examination, students begin to develop research and scholarship in their areas of specialization.

During the second half of Phase I, students enroll in advanced courses within their specific areas of interest. Students are also expected to work with faculty advisors, usually in the form of independent studies, to gain a thorough understanding of their specific areas of concentration including detailed knowledge of the current literature and research trends. In addition to the independent studies, students are expected to author two publishable research papers in their field of specialty. Phase I is completed upon passage of a formal oral qualifying examination conducted by a candidacy committee.

The second half of Phase I must be completed within two years (six quarters).

Phase II: Dissertation

Phase II requires students to perform original research on their chosen dissertation topics. Working with an advisor and a dissertation committee, the student will formulate a dissertation proposal clearly outlining the nature of the research, its importance and contribution, the research methods to be employed, and the anticipated results. The research should lead to significant contributions to the student's chosen field of study. Upon approval of the dissertation and final examination, the student's doctoral committee recommends conferral of the degree. The amount of time a student will spend in this phase depends largely on the type of research and the pace of progress. On average, Phase II is completed within one year.

Connecting career with classroom.

The Merage Fully Employed MBA provides a seamless connection between classroom and career. As one of our three professional MBA programs, the work-school connection is more direct and effective. One night or weekend, you’re in class discussing key management challenges or learning a new way to evaluate an opportunity – the next day, you’re in the office applying what you have learned. You are able to maintain your career momentum, increase your value to the organization, and be recognized for bringing new ideas to the table.

Our faculty and MBA curriculum are ideally aligned to provide the knowledge and skills that MBAs need to lead innovation wherever they go in their careers. We’re building on our reputation for expertise in how information technology is transforming the practice of management, and extending that approach into features of our acclaimed MBA program curriculum. It is a pioneering approach that will ensure that our graduates will be leaders of growth and strategy in the global economy for years to come.

The primary challenge facing business leaders today is making decisions that deliver profitable and sustainable growth. They must do this in an environment where competition is global, product and service innovation is crucial, and companies have access to ever-increasing volumes of data.

At the Merage School, you will master essential business concepts and skills, but never lose sight of the powerful forces that shape business and drive future growth. And you will learn how to harness those forces to your advantage.

You will complete a total of 21 courses: 12 core courses, three off-campus residential courses (two in Southern California and one international), and six electives. The program is structured to enable you to progress logically through material, with one course building on another. The core courses cover the fundamentals of management and build on the foundation for advanced elective study. The three off-campus residential courses augment the core curriculum and provide for more intensive learning and interaction with faculty and fellow FEMBA students. Electives enable you to develop additional depth in a discipline of your choice and to tailor the program to meet your needs.

You must complete a minimum of 92 units and maintain a 3.0 minimum overall grade point average. If you have completed substantial undergraduate work in a particular area, you may petition to waive a related course. However, this will not reduce the total number of courses or units required for the degree. Students who waive classes typically substitute additional electives.

And we admit those who exhibit the strongest potential to become successful members of the Merage network and outstanding global business leaders.

We strongly encourage you to apply early, as availability becomes limited throughout the admissions process. All completed applications are reviewed by an admissions representative, and qualified candidates will be contacted for a personal interview. Admission is for the fall quarter only, and applications are not complete until all items on the admission checklist have been received. We highly recommend attending an information session and/or visiting the campus as part of your selection process. TJeab - Marshall MBA, PM

The Program

The Marshall MBA Program for Professionals and Managers (MBA.PM) is our evening MBA program for students who wish to remain fully employed while pursuing their graduate studies.

This 33 month program consists of two major components: core classes and elective classes. The first 12 months of the program are comprised of core classes that provide you with a solid foundation in all of the major business disciplines through careful sequencing of courses from each functional area. Following the core experience, all MBA.PM students take PM.GLOBE, a semester-long macroeconomics course enhanced by a week-long overseas trip. You complete your MBA degree by enrolling in elective courses that allow you to design a concentration that meets your unique goals and career objectives. At the completion of the program, you will be considered an expert in the field of the concentration you pursued.

To learn more, attend an information session.

The Difference

Although upon completion of the MBA.PM Program you will have earned the same MBA degree as you would in a full-time program, we have tailored the MBA.PM Program to truly meet the needs of a working professional.

Evening Classes
Classes in the MBA.PM Program are held between 6:00pm and 9:40pm twice a week. We believe its easier to fit in an extra three hours at the end of a busy day than it is to give up all or part of a weekend.

Campus Choices
You can choose to complete your first year of core classes at our new Orange County Center in Irvine instead of at the University Park Campus in Los Angeles if the commute is more convenient. Courses at both campuses are taught by highly qualified faculty -- frequently the same professors -- and both campuses have excellent facilities including staff, computer labs, and study rooms.

Flexible Pace
The MBA.PM Program generally takes three years to complete. However, after you complete your first year of core coursework, you set the pace for completing the program. We understand that work demands may change, and you are allowed up to five years within which to complete your degree.

TJames - Business of Medical, USC

The Business of Medicine

With the retrenchment of the technology sector, it could be argued that health care is currently the most dynamic industry in the United States. It continues to become more complex through managed care consolidation and the ongoing downward pressure to manage costs despite mounting legal exposure, increased life expectancy and the aging baby-boomer population.

The obvious and early casualty of these trends has been the physician's salary. Despite the unmatched expertise that physicians achieve through a grueling education, many specialties including general practitioners, family practitioners, and Internists have seen their salary growth flatten. Another, more subtle yet more meaningful casualty has been the control physicians feel they have lost to hospital administrators, HMO executives, lawyers and politicians.

These industry conditions have created a fundamental yet relatively underserved need on the part of physicians -the need to take back control of their futures and the health care industry. USC 's Master of Medical Management (MMM) degree meets these needs by providing the formal business education physicians seek in order to realize their professional goals whether these are career advancement, transition or flexibility. The MMM was created with these needs in mind and provides the following benefits:

  • Career Growth - The knowledge and credentials earned through the MMM allows its students to pursue and be successful in executive positions whether in a group practice, hospital or HMO.

  • Quality - The MMM has been meticulously designed and taught by senior USC faculty

  • Flexibility - The unique design of USC 's MMM allows physicians to earn a rigorous business education from a prestigious university without interrupting their careers.

  • Time - The Master of Medical Management is completed in only one year.

  • CMEs - Students get the extra benefit of earning 50 CMEs upon completion of the program.

  • Relationships - in class sessions allow students to forge a bond that will last a lifetime with each other as well as with faculty.

Whereas the typical executive MBA covers a wide range of business and industry structures and public health degrees stray too far from business and management, the MMM focuses on business and entrepreneurialism in a health care context.

The program is an integrated management curriculum taught by faculty in the Marshall School of Business, the School of Policy, Planning and Development and the Keck School of Medicine.

TJKI - Master of Business Taxation, USC

Understanding taxation is critical to understanding every business decision and many personal decisions as well. Whether starting a business or starting a family, tax planning must be done. Because of the complexity of the tax law and its pervasive influence, people facing tax decisions routinely call on tax professionals for advice in planning and structuring their affairs in order to comply with the law and to ensure economic good sense.

The Master of Business Taxation (M.B.T.) program is designed to develop the skills and expertise professionals need to assist individuals and firms with the myriad of tax legislation and regulation at the federal, state, and local levels. While gaining technical expertise is a central aim of those enrolled in the program, this expertise is not enough. Taxation encompasses law, economics, accounting and politics, and the astute tax advisor must understand all of the factors that influence the making of tax law and its administration. As important as learning the law and mastering research skills is the ability to communicate professional insights to others. The program provides a broad understanding of taxation, an appreciation for the complexities of decision-making, and practice in explaining the tax implications of various courses of action.

The M.B.T. program provides an opportunity to examine tax topics thoroughly in an organized, rigorous fashion. Both full- and part-time students examine in depth an area of taxation, such as estate planning or taxation of foreign operations. Tax practice does not provide sufficient opportunities to study all of the areas influenced by taxation, nor does it allow the time to take an in-depth look at one area. In the M.B.T. program, a student develops an overview of the important areas of tax practice and builds expertise in specific topics.

The career opportunities today in the area of taxation are as great as the need for professional tax advice. The M.B.T. program prepares men and women for major roles in planning and decision-making.

TG-JR Master of Accounting, USC

Master of Accounting

The Master of Accounting program (M.Acc.) prepares graduates for careers in public accounting, industry and government. USC's M.Acc. program is one of the first professional accounting curricula integrating undergraduate and graduate education in the nation. The objectives of the program include developing the sound conceptual, technical, analytical and communication skills that are required to succeed in the accounting profession. The program employs a rigorous case analysis approach which requires students to exercise their analytical abilities and develop effective verbal and written communication skills. The program also seeks to instill a deep appreciation and respect for the crucial role of the independent accountant in our free enterprise economy. This perspective provides the bedrock of the professional attitudes and responsibilities of CPAs today.

Students have the opportunity to study accounting in greater depth than is typically provided in an undergraduate accounting program or an MBA program with a concentration in accounting.

Students may apply to the M.Acc. program after completing a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or during their senior year. An undergraduate accounting or business major is not necessary, nor is work experience a requirement. In this world of "re-engineering," the term "public accounting firm" is becoming obsolete. CPA firms now view themselves as "professional service firms." This dramatically changes the role of the CPA. The profession requires highly visible, articulate business professionals with the ability to interact on many levels within a client's organization. This requires individuals with diverse backgrounds. The profession is ideally suited for those with accounting, business, liberal arts and sciences undergraduate degrees.

TJida - EMBA, USC Marshall

The USC Marshall Executive MBA (EMBA) Program is designed for senior managers and seasoned professionals who wish to remain fully employed as they pursue their graduate studies.

This 21-month program incorporates a successful thematic MBA curriculum that gets to the heart of issues that senior managers and seasoned professionals encounter on a daily basis. We concentrate learning objectives on the 'interrelatedness' of business functions as opposed to the teaching of individual disciplines as unrelated functional entities. This approach has resulted in a program that consists of ten 'themes,' two domestic off-site sessions, and one international off-site session.

At the end of the comprehensive EMBA Program, you will earn your MBA from one of the nation's top-ranked business schools. You'll also capitalize on the strategic advantages of lifetime membership in the Trojan Family and USC Marshall's 70,000-plus alumni network.

To learn more, come to an information session.

The Difference

Two Outstanding Locations
Choose the setting most convenient for you. We offer our EMBA Program on USC's historic University Park Campus in Los Angeles and our new EMBA San Diego Program at the La Costa Executive Conference Center in Carlsbad, California. Classes in Los Angeles and San Diego meet bi-weekly on Fridays and Saturdays (from 8:45am to 4:30pm). All participants attend an off-site international session that provides an insightful global perspective.

Blend of Theory/Practice
We deliver an effective blend of theory and practice through carefully sequenced individual class sessions. There are no stand-alone courses in statistics, economics, accounting or any of the traditional business school disciplines. Rather, we present the curriculum (and related projects) much like the business world presents situations to a senior manager.

Customer Service
Because of the severe time constraints that USC Marshall EMBA students face, our mission is to remove all of the red tape and bureaucracy that often exists at educational institutions. Our program office staff is dedicated to the notion that your goal is to learn, not to stand in lines. All administrative issues are coordinated seamlessly through this office, allowing you to make the most of your time at USC Marshall.

TCalyn - Leeds MBA Programme Quality

The Leeds MBA is reviewed and updated regularly to ensure that it reflects the latest thinking and research. Modules are taught by academic staff, who understand how to put theory into practice and who have experience of teaching on MBA programmes with practising managers. Reinforced by close links with external organisations, consultancy experience and research expertise, most are pre-eminent in their field. Leeds University Business School received a RAE Rating of 5 in the last research assessment exercise.

Which MBA?
The Leeds MBA has risen to 8th in the UK and 40th in the world in Which MBA? 2006, the annual international survey run by The Economist. The survey is based on responses from 20,000 students and alumni worldwide. Its methodology draws substantially on evaluations by the students of 2005/06 and the previous 3 years of alumni, in addition to performance data about the school. 22% of each school’s score is derived from students’ evaluations. Read more here. Or read about Which MBA?

AMBA
The Leeds MBA is accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA). Accreditation is a measure of the quality of an MBA programme and is often used by managers, employers and professional bodies to 'rate' MBA programmes and their schools. AMBA is widely recognised as the guardian of MBA quality. It grants accreditation only after an extensive review of the MBA programmes and of the Business School, based on the following criteria: breadth and content of the programme, quality of teaching, assessment procedures, research and consultancy activity, admission standards and number of students on a programme. Would you like to find out more about AMBA?

TKMKZ - Stanford University MBA

The Stanford MBA Program:
Developing the Best
Leadership is as much a mindset as a skill set, and to make a difference in the organizations you will serve, you need both.

The Stanford MBA Program delivers the leadership education that prepares you for your next job—and for career moves 30 years from now. Here's how we do it and what sets us apart.

General Management Curriculum
To succeed as a leader, it's not enough to specialize in finance or marketing or strategy.

To succeed at the top you need incredible breadth of knowledge because management problems require different views and an integrated perspective to solve.

Our rigorous general management curriculum gives you disciplined analytical tools that help you assess any management problem as well as an integrated management approach that enables you to understand how decisions in one functional area affect other parts of the organization.

Our alumni tell us that it's these critical, complementary capabilities that enable them to succeed—in their first jobs and in their last.

How we teach also is clearly different and an advantage. Because leadership challenges in organizations are often complex and multidimensional, we prepare you through a full range of teaching methods, including lecture/discussion, case studies, and experiential learning.

You'll benefit from large classroom settings, small seminars, and multidisciplinary learning opportunities.

Stanford's emphasis on general management provides concepts and tools for management, perspectives for leadership, and a lasting foundation for success.

Personalized Education
At Stanford we provide you with a challenging and engaging learning environment that is calibrated to your background, experience, and aspirations.

In your first year, you and your faculty advisor will select the courses that challenge you to the best of your ability.

You will strengthen your global perspective through an international experience fitted to your interests.

You can choose from numerous Bass Seminars, innovative classes that use student-driven content and university-wide resources to pioneer new solutions to practical problems. Our breadth of electives (over 100 each year) provides an opportunity to tailor your experience.

You also can expand your studies to incorporate courses—and even degrees—from other areas of graduate study at Stanford.

Through the Stanford MBA education, you will be challenged to reach your fullest potential.

Strategic Size and Collaborative Culture
The primary reason that the Stanford MBA Program can offer so many enriching learning experiences tailored to your interests and goals is because we have a small student body with the resources of a world-class university.

Our class size is a strategic decision. By limiting each class to 360 students, we provide you with a compelling opportunity to form lasting relationships with professors, classmates, and alumni around the world.

Our size and these relationships foster the collaborative culture that permeates the Stanford experience.

Through faculty advising and small seminars, you will gain lifelong mentors.

By knowing everyone in your class, you form lasting connections that form the basis of your alumni community.

After you graduate, you become part of a close-knit group of alumni around the world—24,000 people who are accessible to answer your questions, provide counsel, and make the connections you need, all while treating you like family.

The relationships you build at Stanford endure throughout your life, providing a powerful professional—and personal—advantage.

Our strategically planned size enables us to focus unmatched resources on you, your educational experience, and your career goals, so that you can move confidently forward in the direction of your dreams.

Our collaborative culture ensures that relationships are genuine, deep, and lifelong.

Only at Stanford do you join a true community, for life.

Choosing the right business school is a personal decision. We invite you to meet us and learn more about who we are and what we stand for. Explore what we teach and how we teach it. We believe in the power of ideas to make a difference. And we believe that by educating future leaders and creating ideas, the Stanford MBA Program can change the world. If you want to make a difference, don't wait. Start now!

Curriculum—A Bold New Vision
A Fast Start
With Stanford's new curriculum, you will immediately dive into complex managerial issues.

Through your first quarter General Management Perspectives courses, you will examine questions that transcend any single function or discipline of management such as:

What responsibilities does a corporation have to society?
What do markets do well, and what do they do poorly?
What are the costs and benefits of commitment?
You will begin to understand the larger context of management and recognize deficiencies in your own knowledge that you will fill with General Management Foundations classes in your second and third quarters.

Right from the start, you also will focus on developing your leadership style and honing your skills of oral and written persuasion.

Faculty Advising
Members of our world-renowned faculty are accessible and eager to provide individual guidance. They care about you, your academic experience, and your personal development. You will get to know faculty members well. And they will get to know you.

As a Stanford MBA student, you will have a faculty advisor who knows your background in depth and helps you assess your strengths and development areas.

Your faculty advisor partners with you to select the courses that are calibrated to your personal background, experiences, and interests.

Tailored Curriculum
Stanford offers General Management Foundations courses with multiple levels of difficulty in each discipline calibrated to the background and experience of each student. In some cases there will be options available to better suit students' learning and career goals.

After a serious assessment of your skills in the first quarter, you and your faculty advisor will calibrate your subsequent curriculum based on your background and experiences, academic interests, and career aspirations.

We help you reach your goals faster and better.

Global Experience
Today's society is truly a global one, and it has never been more important to consider the global context of business.

Through required courses and electives, you will not only examine global management issues but also develop frameworks for learning about other countries and how best to navigate cultures different from your own.

We expect to provide every student with opportunities for a global study trip, overseas service-learning trip, international internship, or student exchange experience while in the Stanford MBA Program.

Small Seminars
One of the key benefits of a smaller school is that we can provide more engaging learning environments through our intimate seminars.

Both students and faculty consistently describe Stanford seminars as among their most valuable classroom experiences.

Your Stanford MBA experience will begin and end with seminar classes that bring students and faculty together in small groups to delve deeply or debate more broadly.

Stanford also is introducing a series of intensive one-week fall seminars for second-year students in which you dive deeper into the cutting-edge research and ground-breaking ideas of our faculty members.

Capstone Experience
As your MBA education draws to a close, you will join with your peers and professors to synthesize the last two years with a seminar course that is both retrospective and prospective.

This is a chance to reflect on what you have learned and examine what you hope to achieve in the future—for yourself and for others.

FACULTY
The Economics Department includes 4 full-time faculty; all have earned their doctoral degrees. All full-time faculty are engaged in teaching classes from the introductory to advanced levels.

Law, Politics and Society Program Drake University - CSHE

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Law, Politics and Society program offers students a multidisciplinary perspective on the complex interactions of law, culture, economics, politics, and social structure. Situated firmly within a liberal arts education, the program does not treat law as a fixed, naturally given feature of social life, or as a professional practice reserved for specialists such as lawyers, judges, and legislators. Instead, the program understands law as a pervasive part of everyday life, to be socially constructed and contested. The LPS major is designed to prepare students for effective participation as citizens in a civil society. In this major students will:
• participate actively as citizens in civil society;
• read and understand legal texts, court decisions, and theoretical writing, and use those texts effectively to convey complex ideas and arguments in writing;
• know and articulate the difference between law as a professional practice and law as a topic of liberal arts inquiry;
• demonstrate awareness of how issues of justice, morality, authority, order, legitimacy, individualism, and community create tensions within ordered social life;
• explain how historical development and different cultural practices, social organizations, and political systems affect law and justice around the world;
• assess critically how people interpret, respond to, and experience law and the legal system based on factors such as race/ethnicity, class, gender, and religion;
• deploy contemporary legal, critical, and/or interpretive theories in their own analyses of political, social, or legal events or situations.

DEGREE OPTIONS
Bachelor of Arts in law, politics and society

PROGRAM SIZE
Approximately 150 students are enrolled in the major.

Oversight for the program is provided by an interdisciplinary advisory board with one member from each of the core departments affiliated with the program: English, history, philosophy and religion, politics and international relations, rhetoric and communication, and sociology. Advising for the major is divided among faculty in these core departments.
Several courses from the Drake University Law School may be used to fulfill major requirements.

ACADEMIC PREPARATION

Management Program, Drake University - CJT

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The management major at Drake prepares students to take charge. Managers lead and coordinate; they make decisions and see that they are carried out. They coach, they direct, they strategize and resolve. Effective managers are vital to organizational success. Management students at Drake learn the basics of management by studying under well-trained faculty and listening to invited management professionals from private and public organizations. Drake management courses include role-playing, simulation exercises, individual and team projects, cases, facility tours, and other engaging learning activities. Students are challenged to learn how organizations can thrive under dramatic social and technological change in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. Plus, they are trained to perform careful, thorough analyses that accompany effective management decisions.

Drake’s management degree program is designed to make graduates extremely competitive in today’s dynamic market for entry-level managers. It develops the background and abilities needed to advance throughout a career and achieve success in both the profit and nonprofit sectors of the economy.

DEGREE OPTIONS
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in management

FACULTY
The seven members of the management faculty all have PhD degrees. They bring to the classroom a unique blend of business-world experience, academic training and research insight. Their specialties include performance management, organizational trust, management of diversity, and continuous operations improvement. BR>
ACADEMIC PREPARATION
While there are no specific high school level courses required for the management major, students are encouraged to take courses that help them develop good written and oral communication skills and to begin an early familiarization with computer technology and world events. Psychology at the high school level is also advantageous.

SAMPLE COURSES
Management majors typically take psychology and sociology in the freshman year. Major courses taken in the junior and senior years include organizational theory, planning and control of operations, human resources management, and international business. Management majors also select two courses outside the department of management from one other major field in the College of Business and Public Administration or in another related field. This area of “special interest” is designed to reinforce the student’s career objectives.

DRAKE CURRICULUM
The Drake Curriculum, required of all undergraduates, is designed to help students meet personal and professional goals as they acquire fundamental knowledge and abilities in ten Areas of Inquiry, including communication, critical thinking, artistic experience, historical consciousness, information and technology literacy, international and multicultural experiences, scientific and quantitative literacy, values and ethics and engaged citizenship. Students work closely with their academic advisers to craft a program of study in general education that prepares students for civic and professional leadership.

The Drake Curriculum also requires first-year seminars, which foster development of critical thinking and written and oral communication skills through a topical focus; and a Senior Capstone, in which students demonstrate the capacity to bring information, skills and ideas to bear on one project.

INTERNSHIPS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Paid internship opportunities are available during the school year and summer. Internships help majors gain valuable on-the-job experience and a competitive edge in today’s job market. A number of internships are available with organizations in the Des Moines area including: The Principal Financial Group, Wells Fargo, Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc., Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Firestone, MidAmerican Energy, and state and local government agencies.

CAREER OPTIONS
Drake’s eclectic approach to management exposes students to leadership, operations of businesses, work culture and functions of small, medium-sized and multi-national corporations. Graduates often begin their careers in management training programs or specialist positions. They advance to supervisory, middle management and senior level positions in business activities such as staff assistance, operations, human resource management, franchise management, and consumer relations. Graduates also pursue unique leadership roles in profit, not-for-profit, and public organizations.

Graduates are in the management hierarchy of leading companies throughout the world, including Procter & Gamble, Hallmark, Ralston Purina, Dun & Bradstreet, Hy-Vee, Target, Marsh and McClennan, US West Communications, Von Maur, Keystone Resort, Maytag, Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc., Frito-Lay, ConAgra Inc., American Mutual Life, United Parcel Service, and The Principal Financial Group.

Drake University Accounting Program - CWL

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Unlike many accounting programs, students at Drake begin accounting studies as first-semester freshmen and then take 1-2 accounting courses each semester over four years of study. By starting accounting studies earlier, students have more flexibility in changing majors without the fear of extending studies beyond four years.

The Drake undergraduate degree requires 124 credit hours of study; at least 62 of these hours must be taken in subjects other than business. This strong liberal arts foundation differentiates the Drake accounting major, educating the individual, not just the accountant.

Drake’s undergraduate accounting program prepares students for positions in private accounting. Students pursuing careers in public accounting and CPA certification will need 150 college credits. The School of Accounting recommends graduate studies to meet these professional certification requirements.

DEGREE OPTIONS
Bachelor of Science in accounting (BSBA); Bachelor of Science with a joint major in accounting and another business discipline; master of accounting (MAcc); and master of Business Administration with a concentration in accounting (MBA)

FACULTY
The School of Accounting consists of eight full-time accounting and business law faculty members. All have the highest academic degree required to teach in their areas of expertise or significant “real world” experience. All share a love of teaching and student learning. Individual faculty members have received the college’s outstanding teacher award, outstanding scholarship award, the university’s outstanding service award, U.S. Fulbright Scholar award, and published accounting articles and textbooks. The faculty actively participate as members of Boards of Directors to maintain a connection with accounting practice.

ACADEMIC PREPARATION
Accounting requires no specific high school courses. However, successful students often bring experience in music or mathematics and logical thinking skills. The ability to organize, to create order out of disorder, is a characteristic of successful accountants. Interestingly, most students are surprised to learn that the ability to communicate effectively is a critical skill in accounting. So, writing courses are excellent preparation for communicating business complexities to users of accounting information.

SAMPLE COURSES
A student may choose to pursue the full accounting major, which requires 27 hours of accounting beyond Introduction to Accounting I and II, or a joint major in accounting and another discipline in the College of Business and Public Administration (CBPA).

ACCT 041, 042 - Introduction to Accounting I and II
ACCT 080 - Accounting Systems
BLAW 60 - Business Law I
BLAW 120 - Business Law II
ACCT 090 - Profit Planning and Control
ACCT 115 - Cost Accounting
ACCT 165, 166, 167 - Financial Accounting I, II and III
ACCT 175 - Auditing Principles
ACCT 155, 156 - Income Tax I and II (elective)
ACCT 125 - Cost Management Systems (elective)

Joint Accounting Majors
Accounting can be combined with actuarial science; corporate finance; information systems; insurance; international business; management; and marketing. The joint accounting major allows students to complete an in-depth study of both accounting and another business discipline within the 124 credit hours needed to obtain a BSBA. Three fewer accounting courses are required in the joint major than in the full accounting major, and some modifications of the other business major are made, as well. At the completion of the joint accounting major, a student meets the education requirements to sit for the Certified Management Accounting (CMA), Certificate in Financial Management (CFM) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examinations.

The joint major enables graduates to seek accounting positions in industry, government, and the non-profit sectors, but it also provides those not interested in accounting as a career with a strong foundation in financial reporting, cost accounting, taxation of business entities and the auditing of operations. In addition, the joint major provides the undergraduate with the accounting courses needed to enter the MAcc program, if a student later decides to pursue the CPA.

INTERNSHIPS & OPPORTUNITIES
Internships are very important for students as they provide professional experience that most employers seek in potential employees. Virtually every accounting major who desires an internship is placed in both the junior and senior years. A variety of internships are available in both public accounting and private industry. Participating employers include Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Meredith Publishing, Deere & Company, Procter & Gamble, Farm Bureau Insurance, The Principal Financial Group, public accounting firms (e.g., Clifton Gunderson , Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, KPMG, McGladrey & Pullen), and the U.S. Army Audit Agency.

CAREER OPTIONS
Employment opportunities are available for accounting graduates as auditors, tax consultants and business consultants in public accounting; in cost control, budgeting, internal auditing, financial reporting, financial management and tax planning in industry and the not-for-profit sector; and in government as auditors and financial managers. The accounting major is excellent preparation for a career in general management, since the ability to understand and evaluate accounting information is essential for effective managerial decision-making. The accounting major also readies students for law school and a legal career. Placement is near 100% in the accounting profession.

ORGANIZATIONS
Beta Alpha Psi is a national accounting honor society. All students of the College of Business and Public Administration may join one of the 2 professional fraternities, Delta Sigma Pi and Alpha Kappa Psi.

Certificate in Accounting - CAS

Certificate of Accountancy Overview

The Bauer College of Business offers a non-degree certificate in accountancy through the Department of Accountancy and Taxation. This program is designed for non-degree-seeking post-baccalaureate students who plan to sit for the Uniform CPA exam. Students should contact the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy for information about required general business courses. The certificate is awarded to students who complete at least ten courses in the program, excluding ACCT 2331 & ACCT 2332.

The purpose of this special program is to provide a cluster of 5000-level courses for post-baccalaureate students to fulfill the accounting course requirements to sit for the Uniform CPA exam.

The recent accounting-related corporate scandals and the resulting regulatory requirements have created a tremendous demand for trained accountants. In particular, there has been a significant increase in the demand for the services of certified public accountants.

To sit for the Uniform CPA examination in the state of Texas, an applicant must have completed an undergraduate degree and have a total of 150 hours of college credit. The 150 hours must contain 30 hours of approved upper-level accounting courses, an approved ethics course and 21 hours of non-accounting general business classes.

We have designed a program that will allow you to get the necessary accounting and ethics credits as quickly and efficiently as possible. You take only the courses you need. These courses are offered in the evenings and Saturdays to accommodate your work schedule, and they provide the strong background you need to successfully complete the CPA exam. Please check prerequisites before registering for classes.

MBA in Strategy & Procurement Management - JUH

MBA Strategy & Procurement Management

The Centre for Business Strategy and Procurement (CBSP)

During the 1990s, an increasing number of organisations recognised procurement and supply as a key business competence. It is now accepted that the development of effective procurement and supply practices can impact directly upon the competitive position and operational efficiency of organisations.

Effective procurement is no longer seen as simply a question of obtaining the cheapest supplies or services at the right time. Rather, effectiveness requires an understanding of the wider economic drivers of the organisation and the structure of the supply chains within which the organisation is involved.

The Centre for Business Strategy and Procurement (CBSP) was set up in 1993 to lead and encourage this understanding. The Centre is dedicated to developing individual and corporate excellence in the area of business strategy and supply chain management, and is widely recognised as the leading body in this area in the UK.

The CBSP is involved in a number of activities, including joint research projects with public and private sector partners. It also provides a range of education and training programmes and workshops. At the heart of the CBSP's education and training is the MBA in Strategy and Procurement Management (SPM).

Established in 1993, the degree was the first of its kind. To date, over 300 students have either graduated or are currently undertaking the programme. The MBA (SPM) is highly regarded by both academics and practitioners, and is recognised by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, which awards full professional membership (MCIPS) to students successfully completing the programme. The programme is also accredited by the UK's leading quality assurance body for MBAs, AMBA.

This programme is available on a full-time or part-time modular basis. The part-time programme is also available in Hong Kong.

MBA in Sport Management - JOR

The MBA in Sports Management is a part-time, post-experience programme specifically designed for managers working within sports-related industries

This programme combines the management disciplines of the traditional Executive MBA with specialist sport-related modules. The aim of the programme is to provide managers with the knowledge and skills required to implement better practice techniques in this increasingly important sector of the economy.

Content

The MBA in Sports Management is a modular, part-time programme with a system of rolling entry. Students are expected to register for a minimum of two years and have a maximum of four years to complete the taught element of the programme. In order to receive the MBA (Sports Management) students are required to pass eight taught modules and submit an extended research project. The six core modules are taken from the Executive MBA programme. The research project will usually be work-based and each student will be supported by one-to-one supervision.

Each module is taught in intensive seven day blocks, usually in January, April, June and September. This block format is designed to allow in-depth learning, whilst minimising the time spent away from work. It also means that the MBA can be taken by managers outside of the UK, not least because of our proximity to Birmingham International Airport. In order to join the programme, managers must have at least three years relevant work experience.

The teaching methods employed on the programme include lectures, seminars, group work, case studies and business simulations. As this is a post-experience programme, students will also benefit from comparing experiences and perspectives with managers from other organisations

Executive MBA at Durham University - JMM

Executive MBA

Durham Business School’s two-year, part-time Executive MBA provides a combination of flexibility and academic excellence. You continue working whilst completing your studies - ideal for today’s busy professional. You also benefit from the peer interaction that comes from being taught at the business school.

Our part-time Executive MBA attracts a diverse student intake from a wide range of managerial functions in both the private and public sector. With an average age of around 35, participants bring with them a wide range of experience.

The majority of part-time MBA graduates recover the cost of programme fees in under two years through salary increases alone

One reason that the Durham Executive MBA is special is the emphasis we place on maintaining a balance between hard analytical skills and the development of softer leadership skills. We recognise that soft skills, such as effective communication, self-awareness and the ability to adapt to change quickly are increasingly important in the modern business world.

An intensive International Study Experience of around a week takes place in the second year of the Executive MBA programme. Usually, there will be a choice of destinations around the world.*

With a mixture of company and organisation visits, lectures and cultural events, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in and understand the business environment of another country. Since these trips are open to all our Executive MBA students and alumni there is ample opportunity for networking.

A key innovation within the Executive Durham MBA programme is our exciting boardroom simulation that integrates learning from the core modules into a live boardroom situation. It is designed to replicate the tensions of real leadership challenge in order to develop the life skills required in a business environment.

The Executive MBA programme is both challenging and demanding, but our commitment to meaningful support and a first-class teaching and learning environment means we have a very high completion rate.

*The International Study Experience is included in the cost of the EMBA. Participants will be expected to pay for travel to and from the destination country, some meals, incidental expenses and insurance. Distance Learning at Harvard University - JLS

Distance education allows students living anywhere in the world to experience Harvard through a wide variety of courses available via the Internet. Lectures conducted on campus are videotaped, then made available online along with other course-related material. Local students have the added flexibility of attending lectures in person or watching them online and frequently enjoy the benefits of doing both. In some cases, courses are available online only. Students who take courses online complete the same coursework as students who take them on campus. Thus, although at this time no degrees can be completed entirely online, students may use credits earned via distance education to complete requirements for many Extension School degree and certificate programs. Currently the Certificate in Environmental Management and the Certificate in Applied Sciences may be completed online.

Graduate Programs in Economics, NYU - JKeita

The Department of Economics has risen to national prominence in recent years by attracting internationally renowned scholars to its faculty and by carefully selecting its student body. Different tracks are provided for students with varying career interests. The Ph.D. program equips its graduates with modern economic techniques, enabling them to take leadership positions in economic research in the academic, business, and government worlds.

We believe that we can offer students an outstanding intellectual environment. Seven members of our department are Fellows of the Econmetric Society. Many currently serve or have served on the editorial boards of major journals, including the AER, Econometrica, the Review of Economic Studies, and the Journal of Economic Theory. Perhaps most significant, our department was recently ranked sixth in terms of pages published in major journals. (The updated Dusansky-Vernon (1992) Journal of Economic Literature study, which ranked departments in terms of the publications of their faculty in top-five rated journals).

Each year, the C.V. Starr Center, which is part of the department of economics, sponsors four research seminars in Microeconomics and Game Theory, in Macroeconomics, in International Trade and Finance, and in Applied Microeconomics and econometrics. These seminars give both faculty and students the opportunity to hear prominent researchers in these fields discuss their current research. In addition to the regular research seminars, the Center sponsors a major research conference at least once each year. At these events, selected scholars from all over the world meet for two days to discuss the latest research in areas of current interest. Recent conferences have focussed on technologies and skills; productivity, finance and real activity; and political economy.

Dual Degree - Education - JD

The Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and the School of Education within the Rackham School of Graduate Studies offer a dual degree program enabling a small number of qualified students to pursue concurrent work in business administration and education leading to the MBA and MA degrees.

The program is arranged so that all requirements for both degrees are completed in two and one-half to three years of enrollment. The degrees are awarded simultaneously.

This combined degree program is not open to students who have earned either the MBA or a Master’s degree in Education. Students enrolled in the first year of either program may apply.

Graduate work in the M.B.A. program teaches students the technical/financial skills of business management. Graduate work in the School of Education adds theoretical grounding in the foundation of education and a deeper understanding of the complexities of education policy and practice. The specializations available in educational studies provide opportunity for dual degree students to design a program of study that is appropriate to their academic and career interests. The Educational Studies masters program provides dual degree students with deep exposure to educational theory and the programmatic flexibility to pursue a specialized area of interest that compliments the MBA experience.

Students admitted to this dual degree program must satisfy the following degree requirements:

1) The MBA 57 credit hour degree program including:

  • 45 Business Administration Credits, made up of:
    • Roughly 30 credit hour MBA core (no credit is awarded for Business Administration core courses successfully waived: credit must be earned with Business electives);
    • Roughly 15 elective hours in Business Administration;
    • MBA Communication Requirement.

2) For dual degree students in Business and Education, in addition to the above, the School of Education requires 21 credit hours for the MA degree including:

  • 6 hours of core courses
  • 15 hours of specialization courses

The total credit hours for the dual degree program must be at least 66.

The dual program may begin with studies in either school. However, because of the sequenced nature of the core courses in the MBA program, most students will find it advantageous to start with year one in the Business School. During years two and three, courses may be taken in both schools. Students who wish to begin with Education should see a counselor in the Business School to arrange an appropriate plan of study.

Applicants interested in the MBA/MA combined program must file separate applications to and be admitted by both programs. Applicants must indicate on both applications that they are applying for this specific dual degree program (please make sure the correct box is checked on the MBA application).

An application fee of $60 for United States Citizens and permanent resident or $75 for international students must be paid to Rackham: please include a note regarding disposition of the fee to the school not receiving the money.

Applicants must take the GMAT for admission to Michigan's Ross School of Business and must take the GRE for admission to the School of Education.

Each school will apply its own deferred admission standards to students who elect to take the first year in the other school. The Ross School of Business offers over 20 established dual degree programs at the MBA level, enabling qualified students to pursue concurrent work in business administration and other disciplines within the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. A complete list of the established programs appears in the callout on the right-hand side of this page. Follow these links for basic overviews of each MBA dual program including a sample plan of study.

Most of our established dual degrees are completed in roughly three years and lead to both an MBA and a master's degree in another area. Students may enroll in dual degree programs after being accepted to both the Business School and the other school or college in which they are interested. Separate applications must be made to both schools—acceptance to either school is not contingent upon the other.

Further details on the Established MBA Dual Degree can be found on the MBA Dual Degree web page.

Student Initiated MBA Dual Degrees

We also provide the option for MBA students to create and pursue a dual degree with another graduate/professional program at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor not on the list of established dual degree programs. These students pursue two graduate degrees simultaneously, working toward a "Student Initiated Dual Degree (SIDD)."

For more information about MBA student initiated dual degrees, visit the Student Initiated Dual Degree web page or contact the Dual Degree Advisor in the Office of Academic Services at rossacadservices@umich.edu.

Ross Global MBA -JAM

The Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan is built on core values designed to emulate those in contemporary business, and keep our MBA students connected to the business world. Simply put, the Ross difference is that its students' active participation becomes the mechanism for learning. That process is brought to fruition through our commitment to create a holistic management education - one that focuses on how one learns, as much as what one learns. The Global MBA takes this approach even further by incorporating this process into a MBA program offered exclusively to corporate managers.

The Ross Global MBA is designed to offer companies an opportunity to educate the managers targeted to lead their company into the future. At Ross, we clearly understand the educational needs of companies and their experienced managers. In addition to a solid MBA curriculum, managers expect diverse opportunities and best-of-class training in all disciplines -- from finance and marketing, to corporate strategy and entrepreneurial studies. They expect to have the opportunity to develop a personal network with elite managers from major international firms as well as with the Ross faculty. Likewise, they expect to be exposed to global perspectives and trends shared by both the faculty and classmates.

The Global MBA Program is carefully designed to meet these expectations by offering a balance of core skills, intellectual capital, and action-based learning to those managers who have won the support of their company.

MPA Program Overview - KSW

The MPA is a flexible programme, which may be studied on a full-time (one year) or part-time basis (up to two years).

This programme is aimed at those whose ambition is geared towards leading public service management and innovation. Students will consider the latest international trends in governance, public policy, management and the role of public services in organisational and community capacity building for social and economic development.

The programme is taught by staff from Manchester Business School, the School of Social Sciences, the Institute for Development Policy and Management and the Institute for Political and Economic Governance at The University of Manchester. The cross-disciplinary research and teaching strengths will inform the course design and provide an intellectually rigorous, relevant and applied learning experience.

The MPA aims to prepare future leaders of public service with an understanding of public management in a cross-sectoral and modernising world. Lifting the policy gaze to compare regional, national, and international trends and critical issues in governance, public policy and management, students will be equipped to tackle the practical implications of policy implementation. Career opportunities in leadership, policy administration, management and research, are some of the prospects available in the exciting and diverse world of public and social-business organisations.

Why should I take an MPA?
  • The public sector is an increasingly complex place to work
  • Our need to understand policy issues is as great as ever and the solutions are ever more complex to deliver on the ground
  • The demands of citizens have never been higher
  • Governments are more intent on securing high quality, but at ever higher levels of efficiency in the use of resources
  • Managers need to be able to cope under pressure, respond to multiple stakeholders and work flexibly, often with partner institutions

Throw My Fist,

Once in A Lifetime

MPA at Manchester Business School - K7

Why do an MPA?

There's an increasing awareness of the importance of the public sector in creating a cohesive society. There is also increasing pressure for public services to be run more like businesses, but at the same time to be accountable in a way that private sector organisations aren't obliged to be.

Therefore, the public sector is becoming an increasingly complex place to work. Our need to understand policy issues is as great as ever and the solutions are ever more complex to deliver on the ground. The demands of citizens have never been higher; governments are more intent on securing high quality, but at ever higher levels of efficiency in the use of resources.

The Manchester MPA is designed to help you deal with these challenges by building your skills, competence and confidence so that you can progress in any area of the public sector.

You'll consider trends in governance, public policy and management at the regional, national and international levels and the role of public service in leading organisational and community capacity-building to achieve socio-economic development goals. You'll be able to consider your own role in the workplace and respond effectively to changes that are going on around you.

Why do the Manchester MPA?

The University is an international academic power house that attracts the best students, teachers and researchers in the world. Once you’ve enrolled you’ll find that there are some distinct benefits to the Manchester MPA:

  • An impressive reputation
The University has a reputation that is both a guarantee of quality and has impact with employers. The University recently won the Sunday Times University of the Year award and the Times Higher Education Supplement Higher Education Institution of the Year award. Presenting the latter award, the Prime Minister complimented the University on its “…vision for the future and determination to reinvigorate itself to become one of the top research universities in the world…”.

  • Design your own route
At each stage of the programme you are able to choose from a menu of specialist electives, to select those that are most relevant to you. You're effectively designing an MPA to meet your own career goals.

  • Learn by doing
The challenges that you face in the workplace don't fit neatly into subject areas so neither does our teaching. We teach using the Manchester Method, a practical and project based method that emanates from the principle that education is more rewarding when it is put into practice. By relating your MPA to a live organisational environment, we make learning more relevant and exciting to you.

  • Learn from international colleagues
Because the programme recruits internationally you're able to share experiences of how public sector organisations operate in other countries, and compare and apply this to your own environment. You'll also learn how to work with people from different cultures. This international mix makes the process of learning more interesting. The programme involves opportunities for international travel, where you’ll be able to compare your own practices with those in other countries.

  • A minimum of disruption
Other programmes entail many months of disruption to your working week. The structure of our programme means that your time won’t be disrupted for several years. The programme is grouped into six four-day course units, so that your study is concentrated and impacts less on your work life. Course units run once every two months for students on the part-time route, who complete the programme in two years, while those studying full-time attend once a month and complete the programme in one year.

  • No examinations
Your performance on the programme is assessed through coursework, projects, dissertations and group work, which are spread throughout the programme. This means that assessment isn't focused around a single intensive examination period.
